Cleft lip, palate surgery at Columbia Asia Hospital-Miri to bring back the smiles

MIRI: An assessment test will be conducted next week for those who have registered for cleft lip and palate treatment.

Columbia Asia Hospital-Miri (CAH-M) Marketing/Customer Care executive Goh Teck Nei said the tests would be carried out on Oct 22, and corrective surgery on Oct 27.

The tests and surgeries would be conducted at the third floor of the hospital, and it would be conducted by renowned plastic surgeon from Kuala Lumpur Dr Kim Tan and his surgical team.

“To date, 27 persons have registered for the assessment test to determine their eligibility for the repair treatment.”

The corrective surgery programme is a charity initiative of the Cleft Lips and Palates Association of Malaysia (Clapam), and is supported by Columbia Asia Hospital-M, which provides the operation venue, facilities and relevant assistance to the patients and guardians.

This is a free service for those eligible, especially those in the rural areas, and total monthly family income is less than RM2,000.

It is, in fact, an ongoing campaign to help bring back smiles to those with such deformities.

Those who feel they qualify for corrective surgery may register with Columbia Asia Hospital-M for the next campaign.
