Dr Jerip opens two-day health carnival

PROMOTE HEALTH: Dr Jerip opening of the Sibu Health Carnival.

SIBU: A Health Carnival organised by Sibu Hospital held at an open space of Sibu Central Market was declared open by Assistant Minister of Health Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said yesterday.

The two-day health carnival which opens from 7am to 4pm provides the public free health check, talks and counselling services related to health.

Besides, the public could also visit a health exhibition and booths set by Sibu District Police, Fire and Rescue Services Department as well as Anti-Narcotics National Agency.

In his opening address Dr Jerip who is also Bengoh assemblyman said most of the non-infectious diseases like high blood, diabetes and obesity were life style disease.

He added that, the State Health Department in collaboration with other related government agencies had organized the health carnival to raise the awareness of the danger of poor lifestyle.

“This health carnival is part and parcel of the Sixth National Blue Ocean Strategy held in Sabah and Sarawak encompassing range of health activities, surgical, promotion of health and procedures.

“It is among the government efforts to create awareness among the public on the importance of health and to prevent life style diseases,” he said.

Senior Assistant Health Director-General of Family Health Development Premier Health Division in the Ministry of Health, Dr Safiee Ismail, Deputy State Health Director (Medical),Dr Chin Zin Hing, Sibu Divisional Health Officer Dr Muhammad Rais Abdullah and Director of Sibu Hospital Dr Ngian Hie Ung were also present.
