SIBU: Sibu Table Tennis Association (STTA) want to attract more players to take part in their competitions.

In his welcoming speech for the President’s Cup at the Stadium Ping Pong of Merdeka Road here yesterday, STTA president Vincent Lau Lee Ming encouraged more people to take up table tennis as a form of exercise.

“The association will look into ways and maybe increase the value of prizes to attract more players from government departments and the private sector to participate in such tournaments,” he suggested.

It is important for private companies, he said, to also emphasise the welfare of their employees through activities which foster physical and mental health.

He added that many people may not want to take part in competitions because they had bad experiences or lost many times in the past.

But he urged them to participate not just with the intention to win their matches.

They could also make new friends and foster closer rapport with colleagues through participation in competitions.

Among those present was STTA chairman Dr Clement Chen.
