HAT-TRICK FEAT: Lee Ka Tung poses with the challenge trophy and champion’s trophy after winning the Sarawak Amateur Masters Open Golf Championship for the third time at DGCC last Sunday.

KUCHING: Lee Ka Tung became the first golfer to score a hat-trick of wins in the 6th Sarawak Amateur Masters Open Golf Championship when he carded a total three-day gross score of 221 at Damai Golf and Country Club in Santubong last Sunday.

The Sibu Golf Club ace basically led from start to finish, carding a 72 on the first day, followed by a 75 on the second day and returned a 74 on Sunday to lift the Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing Challenge Trophy and first prize of RM6,000.

Finishing six strokes behind in second place was Norazle Idris who collected RM4,000 while Mohamad Lokman Mustapha, third on 232, received RM2,000.

Ka Tung’s younger brothers Kah Ming (232) was fourth and defending champion Ka Tiong (242) finished in 11th spot.

In fifth to 10th positions were Lau Ching Leong (234), Aaron Lau Zhun Min (236), John Ling Cheng Ong (237), Johari Aman (238), Hoan Kee Hock (239), Aw Yong Jhie Jgin (241) while Liew Joo Shing came in 12th wth a 249 score. Ka Tung was also the champion in 2009 and 2010.

“I am very happy to win for the third time and complete a hat-trick here today. My tee-offs wasn’t too good and luckily I was able to recover by hitting the second shots better and my putting was good too,” said the amateur golfer who has also won the Sarawak Open and the Bintulu Amateur Open this year.

“The DGCC course is very nice and the greens have also been improved after the upgrading of facilities and I like the scenery here,” said Ka Tung whose next destination is the Keningau Amateur Open in Sabah this week.
