MIRI: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is cracking down on road users who continue to flout the law through regular roadblocks in strategic areas here.

An assistant enforcement officer said non-standard licence plates, tinted windows and windscreens, expired driving licences as well as expired road tax are the four offences that JPJ regularly issues summonses for here.

“These offences are regularly committed by road users during checks at roadblocks,” he during a roadblock in front of a shopping complex and hotel yesterday.

He said the two-hour operation saw 50 summonses issued for various road transport offences with compounds ranging from RM50 to RM300.

Among them were drivers and passengers not using their seatbelts and drivers using their mobile phones.

The officer said drivers detected fleeing the roadblock would be issued show-cause letters.

During the operation, JPJ personnel issued summonses to foreign vehicles.

“We will not compromise with road users who purposely break the regulations under JPJ regulations,” he said.

Meanwhile, he called on the public not to be influenced by shops selling car accessories, which claim the items are approved by JPJ.

“JPJ has never approved such items at accessories shops including tinting,” he added.

He explained that road users who wish to modify their vehicles should first check on the standard requirements with JPJ.
