More prefer working near homes

SERIAN: More job seekers are now seeking employment closer to home so that they can be with their families.

For 30-year-old Livia Siban of Balai Ringin, she wants a job near her home because she had spent a few years working in Peninsular Malaysia.

“I have been working in various lines of work. Now, I hope to find a suitable and steady job here in Serian as it is closer to home,” said Livia.

She was met by The Borneo Post at the Azam Job Placement Programme for Serian District at the Serian Community Hall yesterday.

Livia added that the event yesterday provided the best opportunity for job seekers to be referred to the best employers according to their qualifications.

Meanwhile for Alexson Tan, 22, of Kampung Merbau in Balai Ringin, he still feels that Serian provides many job opportunities as the town is booming with economic activities.

“A lot of my friends from the same village migrated especially to Peninsular Malaysia to seek greener pasture. However, I still prefer here as I have family to take care of,” he said.

For 24-year-old Delyas Muda of Kampung Riih Daso, it is his wish that the outcome from the job placement programme will be as what he expected.

“I am seeking any job which is stable and flexible. I have been working as a general worker for several years now,” he said.

Jenely Saul, 22 of Kampung Payau Mawang however has a different point of view as she is willing to migrate to bigger cities.

“I am willing to move out from Serian as long as the offer is suitable for me. It is not a problem for me,” she said.

A total of 1,261 positions were offered yesterday, ranging from sales assistant, promoter, security guard, general worker, safety and health officer to plant supervisor.

A total of 19 companies participated in the job placement programme, such as Parkson Corporation Sdn Bhd, Unaco Enterprise Sdn Bhd, GHCH Retail (M) Sdn Bhd, Damai Puri Resort & Spa and KFC (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd.
