Police issue 56 rally permits for Sungai Limau by-election

YAN: The police have issued 56 rally permits to Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS in the Sungai Limau by-election since nomination day on Oct 23.

Yan district police chief DSP Ismail Abu said they received 58 permit applications from BN and PAS of which 56 were approved while two applications were rejected.”Two applications were rejected for being unsuitable to avoid confrontation as the venues requested are close to one another,” he told reporters here Sunday.Ismail said 22 rallies will be held today of which six are organised by BN and 16 by PAS.The campaigns of both political parties have been smooth without any untoward incidents.Three police posts and three mobile stations have set up in Sungai Limau to monitor the movement of party supporters and to safeguard the peace.

He advised supporters of BN and PAS to comply with the conditions of the rally permits such as the time and venue selected.

Supporters of the two political parties were also advised to campaign with courtesy and refrain from making accusations that can cuase provocation and raise anger.

On the use of loudspeakers by party supporters on nomination day, Ismail said police have recorded statements from several witnesses.

Sungai Limau state by-eletion on Nov 4 will see a straight fight between Dr Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim from BN and Mohd Azam Abd Samat from PAS. — BERNAMA
