PUTRAJAYA: The National Language Star Rating System – Local Authorities will be expanded nationwide next year in efforts to uphold the national language.

Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the pilot stage of the system was launched between Aug 27 and Sept 18 this year at 18 local authorities at state capitals, cities and Putrajaya Corporation.

“It will be expanded to all the local authorities including District Councils.

“I hope the system’s implementation will encourage the respective local authorities to increase their efforts to uphold the national language,” he said at the ministerial level launching of the 2013 National Language month here yesterday.

On a separate development, he said the Ministry will be setting up 148 Residents Representatives Committees (JPP) nationwide from January next year, to increase coordination and well-being, particularly in urban areas.

He said the JPP will be set up within all city halls, municipal councils, and district councils nationwide except in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.

“JPP is a formal platform for city dwellers to raise their problems, make suggestions and discuss issues with the government in an orderly and structured manner,” he said.

He added that the JPP would act as an intermediary between the government and people to channel accurate information to city folk.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced an allocation of RM63 million for the setting up of 24 JPP zones nationwide. — Bernama
