Bintulu Port appoints Dr Ali Hamsa as non-independent, non-executive chairman

KUCHING: Chief Secretary to the government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa has been appointed as Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd’s non-independent and non executive chairman effective today.

The company in a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday said he will replace Tan Sri Dr Wan Aziz Wan Abdullah as the company’s chairman as Dr Aziz’s tenure of service has expired.

Meanwhile, Dr Ali is also the chairman of Malaysian Intergrity Institute (IIM), the co-chair of the Special Taskforce to Facilitate Business (Pemudah) and deputy chairman of Johor Corporation.

Besides that, he is also member to the Board of Advisors of 1Malaysia Development Bhd, board member of Bintulu Port, Penang Port Commission and Bumiputera Agenda Coordinating Unit (Teraju).

Dr Ali holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences and Economic, a Masters degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree from University Malaya.

His working experience among others include being an assistant director in the international trade division of Ministry of International Trade and Industry from 1981 to 1985, director of region economy section, Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department in June 2003, director of distribution section, Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department in December 2005, deputy director general of National Transformation & Advancement Programme, Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department in August 2007, director general of Public Private Partnership Unit (UKAS) in the Prime Minister’s Department in April 2009 and the Chief Secretary to the government from June 2012 until present.

Bintulu Port also said chief executive officer of Malaysia LNG group of companies Zakaria Kasah has also been appointed as a non-independent and non executive director of the company.
