MIRI: A senior citizen was duped of his life savings by four strangers offering to help him for monthly government welfare financial aid on Friday morning.

The 69-year-old man told police that the four men had approached him while he was strolling alone at Miri fish market around 11am.

“They had told me once I apply for the aid, I will receive RM500 monthly from the government… they had managed to entice me to fall victim,” said the man yesterday.

A police report on the incident has been lodged at Miri Central Police Station (CPS) by the victim.

Once the victim had withdrawn all of his cash from a bank here, the suspects brought him to another bank in Jalan Bendahara.

“They pulled over there, and asked me to go inside the bank to register my name in the system, while they held my cash waiting for me in the car,” said the victim.

Unfortunately, as the old man came out of the bank, the suspects had fled the scene with his cash.
