MIRI: A student who was supposed to sit for a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) paper yesterday has gone missing, after telling her parents that she was going for an extra class on Tuesday.

Rizawaty Jaling, 17, left her house in Jalan Pujut 8, Lutong at 7am.

Her father Jaling Kanyan said he was in the shower when his daughter left the house to take the bus.

She was last seen wearing a pink T-shirt, dark long pants and her spectacles.

Jaling said he and his family members only realised Rizawaty was missing after she failed to return home that evening.

He said he then tried to contact the teacher in charge of extra classes.

“I was told by the teacher that there was no extra class on that day (Tuesday) because it was a public holiday (Awal Muharam).

“Worried about her safety, I tried to make a police report on the same day but was told that it could only be done after 24 hours,” said Jaling, who is a labourer.

He also contacted Rizawaty’s school teacher yesterday and was disappointed to learn she did not go to school to sit for the SPM paper.

After waiting for 24 hours, Jaling lodged a report at the Miri Central police station yesterday.

“My family members and I have contacted her mobile phone many times but all our calls were unanswered.

“I am worried about her safety, furthermore she is supposed to be sitting for her SPM, something that is very important for her future,” he said.

On the advice of police, Jaling decided to share the story with the media in the hope of locating his daughter.

Those who have seen Rizawaty or have any information on her whereabouts can contact Jaling (012-8716506), Inspector Rahimah (012-9123247), the police operations room (085-433400), Miri Central police station (085-433222) or the nearest police station.
