SRI AMAN: An elderly woman died in a fire that engulfed her house at Kampung Benan, Lingga, where she stayed with her son last Sunday.

Reliable sources identified the victim as Senin Kumbang, 65. She was said to be unable to escape because she was crippled. Her son, Pogy Lambai, 40, managed to escape without injury.

Six fire fighters from Sri Aman arrived at the scene around 11pm after receiving a call about 10pm.

Though they managed to put out the fire before 12 midnight, the house was totally razed.

Senin’s remains had been sent to Sri Aman Hospital for post-mortem.

When contacted, Lingga assemblywoman Simoi Peri said she had sent RM500 in the form of disaster relief aid to the victim.

Simoi said she would help to rebuild the victim’s house and would direct the relevant department to do it.
