Longstanding disputes culminate in threat

SIBU: A man from Nibong Tada reported a relative’s family to the police yesterday morning for threatening him and his family members following longstanding conflicts between the two families.

The two families had a four hours negotiation over many disputes at the compound of their longhouse last Sunday morning.

The negotiation ended in a quarrel in which a relative told the 55-year-old complainant that he would instruct thugs to look for him (the complainant).

The complainant said three of the relatives wielded knives in front of his family members after the quarrel. He said he had tried to seek help from the longhouse chief to arrange for another negotiation that night, but only one relative turned up.

“He came to tell us that other relatives could not come because they were drunk,” recalled the complainant.

Yesterday, the complainant was accompanied by his daughter and son-in-law to lodge a police report.

In the report, he said a relative who is in his 30s, always blamed him (the complainant) whenever anything happened.

The complainant said the relative also accused him of damaging the engine of his boat, slashing the boat with a knife, and flattening a tyre of his motorcycle.

The complainant’s daughter said the relative had placed an item wrapped in a black plastic bag on the motorcycle that belonged to her husband. She said none of her family members dared to touch the bike for fear of a possible spell.

She added that family members later saw the relative take the packet away from the bike which had fallen on its side.
