SIBU: The police are cracking down on the online activities of drug pushers, employing mechanisms to penetrate their domain in order to curtail the menace at the early stage.

Sibu police chief ACP Shafie Ismail warned drug pushers that their activities would not go undetected despite them (drug pushers) turning to the Internet to peddle drugs.

He said that the police had upped their effort to gather information before pouncing on the culprits.

He also disclosed this was the first time the police had encountered such modus operandi of drug pushers here.

“This may be something new but they will not escape the police dragnet as we can still trace them even if they use this web-based technology.

“But most important is the cooperation from the public,” Shafie said when contacted yesterday.

He was asked on the news report that that drug addicts could now get their supply by paying for the stuff online and had the drugs delivered to them.

According to the report, the police believed they had uncovered this online supply line after they arrested three teenage brothers last week for being hooked to (ice) amphetamine.

The boys were tested positive after they were taken into police custody.

Shafie believed the menace was still at its early stage.

“We view this as a very serious matter and we want the public to work closely with us to combat the menace,” he said.
