KOTA KINABALU: A total of 235 people received Sabah state awards from the Head of State, Tun Haji Juhar Haji Mahiruddin, at an investiture ceremony at the State Istana here yesterday.
Twenty-six persons were awarded the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK) which carries the title Datuk, according to a statement from the Information Department.
Heading the PGDK recipients were Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Federal Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman bin Datuk Haji Dahlan, Batu Sapi Member of Parliament Datuk Linda Tsen Thau Lin, Sebatik Assemblyman Datuk Haji Abd Muis Pico and veteran lawyer Datuk Vincent Michael Fernandez.
Among those receiving the Justice of the Peace award were Sabah MIC chairman Datuk Jothi Veeramani a/l Valmuni, Ex-Police Association Malaysia president Datuk Yusuf Hamdain Diego and Putatan Umno Youth chief Shahelmy Yahya.
Twenty-two persons received the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK) award, including Sabah Journalists Association acting president Francis Fahir and Welfare Services Department director Ithong @ Etong Terang.
Among the 43 Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK) recipients were BTC executive director Datin Hajah Siti Kathija Begam Jailani, Sabah Information Department deputy director Yunus Saprin and the department’s translator/writer Ramesh Sivanathan a/l Lechumiah.
Fifty-seven others received the Bintang Setia Kinabalu (BSK), 50 the Bintang Kinabalu (BK) and 33 the Sijil Kehormat (SK).
Among those present at the ceremony were the Head of State’s consort, Toh PuanHajah Norlidah binti Datuk R.M. Jasni, Sabah Federal Secretary Dato Abu Bakar Hassan, State Mufti Ustaz Bungsu @ Aziz Hj Jaafar and heads of state and federal government departments.
