Police mull giving cadets powers

DUNGUN: The police has proposed giving powers to cadet officers in efforts to curb crime, Crime Prevention and Eradication Department,

Operations Division deputy director, deputy commissioner of police Datuk Rusli Ahmad said yesterday.

“There was a suggestion to provide police powers to cadet officers absorbed into the Police Volunteer Reserve, but the matter must be taken up with the IGP (Inspector-General of Police) first,” he said after closing a cadet police teacher’s course on professionalism , here yesterday.

The four-day programme started last Thursday with 120 senior cadet officers from the East Zone covering Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan.

Rusli also encouraged school students to join the police cadet corps to help reduce crime and gain more discipline. — Bernama
