PRS Youth: Chong’s ploy to trap Masing childish

KUCHING: It is typical of Kota Sentosa Assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen to act in such a childish manner in daring Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing to support his motion to review the Malaysian Constitution on the 18 point Agreement, says Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth vice chairman Kemarau Entalai.

“He knew that Dr James would not do that but he just wanted to score some political mileage,” Kemarau said here yesterday.

He added that PRS Youth was solidly behind their president in giving constructive criticisms so that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government would be more aware of what had gone wrong with regards to the 18 point Agreement.

“This is fair because some young Umno leaders seemed to have forgotten what had been agreed upon during the formation of Malaysia.

“In this way we hope the government would strategise our development to be in line with the concept of being ‘equal partner’,” he said.

Kemarau said if Chong’s intention was to trap or corner Masing, then he had failed miserably.

“Dr James is a wise man in politics and definitely would not stumble and fall to such a silly political ploy.

“Being in the government, our approach has to be one that is constructive and not antagonistic in nature. If something is not right we are duty bound to highlight the issue so that appropriate corrective action can be employed immediately,” he pointed out.

Kemarau stressed that Sarawak needed more development fund to spur its growth and let the Malaysian Agreement be the basis in determining the allocation of fund.

“In that way we can fast track our development to be on par with West Malaysia,” stressed Kemarau.

Meanwhile, Masing said Chong could not differentiate between constructive criticism and destructive criticism.

“The first one is to better the organisation while the second one is to kill it. Chong opts for the second. So how does he expect me or BN to support him?” added Masing.
