KAPIT: All Sarawakians are duty-bound to ensure the state continues to progress and develop.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said this can only be achieved by peaceful interaction among all communities.

He stressed that this is why extremist movements such as Perkasa have no place in the state.

“Perkasa has no place in Sarawak and I agree with the other BN (Barisan Nasional) leaders that there is no room for extremist ideas, especially on racial and religious matters, in the state.

“We all believe that the very reason Sarawak agreed to the formation of Malaysia was we were assured of our liberty in all aspects,” he said when closing the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Inter-Team Badminton Championship recently.

The SDNU deputy president pointed out that Sarawakians want to live in peace, harmony and unity in order to share in the state’s development.

“We appreciate Chief Minister Pehin Sri Taib Mahmud’s view on wisdom and liberty. We appreciate the CM’s down to earth understanding of the need for Sarawakians to live in peace and harmony with each other,” he added.
