KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic offenders facing arrest and those with outstanding summonses will not be arrested to give them a chance to settle their dues before overall enforcement is carried out, said Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin.

He said they will be given the opportunity for the time being to settle outstanding summonses before the launching of Ops Warta soon, the dragnet for such offenders.

“We will not reveal the duration of the opportunity to settle traffic summonses.

“When we implement the total enforcement soon, those with warrants and outstanding summonses will be take directly to court,” he told reporters after launching a commercial crime prevention campaign here yesterday.

Touching on police’s Ops Cantas Khas Sempadan operation, he said under it entry points into the country would be monitored to curb smuggling of weapons.

“We also need public cooperation in providing information to the police (on the smuggling of firearms),” he said in commenting on a local news report today on the ease of smuggling in firearms into the country. — Bernama
