KUALA LUMPUR: Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos Malaysia) yesterday warned the public against buying, selling and using counterfeit stamps which have been found to be distributed and sold in the market.

Its Group chief executive officer Datuk Iskandar Mizal Mahmood said the public must be aware that there were fake stamps in the market.

“We should make sure we are buying genuine stamps from Pos Malaysia outlets, mobile post offices or Pos Malaysia’s authorized stamp dealers,” he said in a statement, here.

According to the statement, postal inspectors from Pos Malaysia had been probing a possible network of stamp counterfeiters and had requested the assistance of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Royal Malaysian Police pertaining to the matter.

It said the move was to examine the possibility that a network engaged in the sales of counterfeit stamps might be active in the Klang Valley area.

“More than 50,000 counterfeit stamps have been seized since investigations commenced,” the statement said.

Manufacturing, distributing and selling counterfeit stamps is punishable under Section 65 of the Postal Services Act 2012 carrying fines of up to RM500,000 or imprisonment for up to five years or both, upon conviction.

Thus, the public are advised to alert Pos Malaysia of suspected illegal activities of manufacturing, distributing and selling counterfeit stamps by individuals or groups. — Bernama
