80-year-old woman survives attempt to strangle her

RANAU: An elderly woman survived an attempt by a group of men to strangle her before fleing with her belongings in the wee hours yesterday.

The victim, identified as Luhineh Kitamal, 80, was rushed to the district hospital here by one of her children for treatment.

District police chief DSP Abdul Rahman Kassim disclosed that the incident occurred at around 4.15am at the victim’s house at Kampung Tungou.

“It was learned that three men had entered the house through the kitchen. They strangled her before ransacking the house and fled with the victim’s cash amounting to RM1,000, jewelery and cell phone worth RM3,000, among other things,” he said.

Abdul Rahman, when confirming the incident, said a police report had been lodged, while the victim was warded and reported to be in a stable condition.

The case will be investigated under sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code.
