UNHARMED: Two Civil Defence Department personnel tending to the baby.

SIBU: A young couple is believed to have abandoned a four or five day old baby boy in the compound of Kutien Association’s Senior Citizens’ Home at Fong Ming Road.

According to a resident living in the neighbourhood, the man and woman arrived on a motorcycle at the front gate of the home around 11am yesterday.

The woman got down from the bike and stood there for a while before placing the baby wrapped in a towel on a bench in the compound of the Home.

“They sped off after that,” the resident said, adding that the man was clad in a white T-shirt.

The resident said he went over to check, but a member of the Kutien Association was a step ahead of him.

Found with the baby were half a dozen pampers, a toy, two tins and two packets of milk powder.

Staff of the home brought the baby to their office after being informed by the member.

A few committee members of the association arrived shortly, one of them bringing a feeding bottle for the baby. The Civil Defence Department helped to send the baby to Sibu Hospital, reaching there at 4.30pm. A police report has been lodged.
