SIBU: The vice chairman cum secretary-general of the Malaysian Red Crescent, Datuk Dr Noordin Abd Razak hopes that the various awards given out will inspire other members to further improve their humanitarian services towards the local community.

He said the awards showed that the Malaysian Red Crescent Sibu Chapter, under its dedicated chairman Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee is full of optimism.

“The chapter has definitely come a long way since its existence way back in 1963. Through thick and thin they carry out their caring humanitarian services to evolve from a very humble beginning during the colonial era to what it is today,” he said.

He was speaking at the Golden Jubilee Dinner held in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Malaysian Red Crescent Sibu Chapter 1963-2013 at a hotel here, Friday night.

The deputy chairman of MRC Sarawak Branch Datuk Putit Matzen, MRC Sibu Chapter advisor Vincent Lau Lee Ming, chairman of MRC Sibu Chapter, Chua Hiong Kee, Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee, Sibu Resident Sim Kok Kee and the two vice chairmen of MRC Sibu Chapter Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce and John Wong were also present.

Dr Noordin also said that he was very impressed with the chapter for their commendable effort in setting up the first blood donation centre within the chapter’s building for organising regular blood donation campaigns.

“This is a very good effort and initiative as displayed by our Sibu chapter in helping and making sure that the supply of blood at Sibu Hospital will always be adequate,” he added.
