SRI AMAN: Lingga assemblywoman Simoi Peri urged community leaders to be exemplary in their roles for their charges to follow suit.

She said it was important for community leaders, be they penghulus or village chiefs, to show good examples in whatever they do, to bring positive changes to the people under their care.

“As community leaders at whatever levels you are, it is important that you show exemplary roles in whatever you do because such actions will to a certain extent help shape the people you look after,” Simoi pointed out when officiating at Kampung Lemanak and Kampung Hulu Surau Hayatul Islam open verandah and thanksgiving ceremony recently.

The event was officiated by Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim.

Simoi also urged community leaders to voice the grouses of the people to the relevant authorities like the Resident and District Officers.

This, she pointed out, would enable the problems to reach the higher authorities and be resolved.

“For problems of the people in the villages to be resolved, community leaders should not keep the problems to themselves, but tell the Resident or District Officers or the elected representatives,” she pointed out.

Community leaders being the agent of the government must be proactive to help the people, she added.

Among those present were Sri Aman deputy residents Hamsein Attar (development) and Hamdan Katang (social), Sri Aman district officer Ismawie Salleh and Surau Hayatul Islam trust board advisor Abdul Samad Abdul Rahim.
