KUCHING: A seemingly innocuous traffic collision at Kenyalang Park early yesterday morning ended with the death of a motorcyclist after he was slashed on the neck with a cockspur by the car driver.

The brazen killing occurred around 1am at a T-junction near a playground when the deceased, identified as 25-year-old Mohd Ilfan Daud, was riding back to his rented house in Tabuan Foochow together with his cousin Mohamad Rafi Puteh.

According to Rafi, they were making a turn from Jalan Datuk Amar Sim Kheng Hong into Jalan Dato Bandar when a white heavily-tinted car shot out of the junction and knocked them down.

The 28-year-old factory worker said that Ilfan and the car driver confronted each other over the collision and that both became involved in a war of words before scuffling with each other.

“I was making a phone call to another cousin to ask him to come to the scene when I heard them scuffling. When I turned around, my cousin (Ilfan) was lying in a pool of blood on the road with a large slash wound on the left side of his neck,” said Rafi, adding the car driver got back into his vehicle and sped away.

The incident, according to him, was witnessed by several other people who had come out from nearby houses upon hearing the initial collision..

Immediately following the attack, Ilfan was rushed by his cousin and friends to Sarawak General Hospital but doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival..

He was thought to have already succumbed at the scene as a result of massive bleeding, with doctors also discovering several other slash wounds on his arms and torso..

Police also obtained the description of the suspect’s car as well as part of the licence plate number, and are in the process of tracking down the perpetrator.

Acting district police chief, DSP Roselina Daud, who confirmed the incident when contacted yesterday, said the body of the deceased had been sent for a post mortem and that the case had been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code..

She also urged witnesses or anyone who might have information pertaining to the incident to go to the nearest police station to assist them with the investigation..

It is learned that Ilfan hailed from Kampung Semera Ulu in Sadong Jaya and used to work as a mechanic.
