KUCHING: Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) will hold its open day tomorrow (Dec 15) featuring activities such as free health screenings and health awareness talks from 8.30am to 4pm.

BMC chairman and medical director Dr John Chew said the open day aims to introduce the medical centre to the public as well as raise awareness of disease prevention and health protection.

“At BMC, we strive to provide the best healthcare services to our patients and are always looking for opportunities to serve our patients better, focusing on building trust and improving efficiency.

“Our multi-disciplinary clinics are managed by doctors offering medical and healthcare services at tertiary care level,” he told a press conference.

Dr Chew said the free health screening covered blood pressure, body mass index and fat analysis, glucose screening and cholesterol screening.

“Furthermore, free pregnancy ultrasound scan, mammogram, eye checking, liver scan, dental checking and bone density scanning are also available,” he said, adding that free consultations would be given by the resident medical officers and dietician.

“We will also be holding a blood donation drive and blood donors will be given a packet of 5kg rice as an incentive.”

Meanwhile, BMC consultant neurologist Dr Soo Hua Huat said there will be three health awareness talks: ‘The Three Highs (High Blood Pressure, Sugar and Cholesterol) and Heart Disease – Valuable Advice from the Experts’, ‘The Care of Expecting Mothers and Children’, and ‘Early Detection and Treatment of Cancer’.

“These talks will commence from 9am onwards and will be conducted in both English and Mandarin,” he said.

Other activities include lucky draws and giveaways of balloons and children’s colouring kits.

“There will also be a clown attendance with busking musicians as well as complimentary newspapers to give away together with sampling of drinks and vitamins,” said Dr Chew.

“The hospital is also giving away special promotion vouchers for the usage of services of BMC,” he added.
