Headmistress, son perish in accident

KOTA SAMARAHAN: The headmistress of SK Tambirat and her 11-year-old son were killed while her daughter was seriously injured in a road accident near Semawang bridge here yesterday morning.

It was said that the 49-year-old mother had lost control of the Toyota Avanza when negotiating a bend before it skidded and landed in a river.

The victims were identified as Hamidah Johar, 49, and her son Ainol Yakin Sajali.

It was learnt that Hamidah was on her way to attend a meeting for the start of the 2014 schooling session.

Both she and her son were said to have drowned after their vehicle sank in the river.

The 19-year-old daughter sustained serious injuries.

It was also learnt that the river was flooded at the material time due to heavy rain since morning.

The daughter was rushed to the Sarawak General Hospital for treatment while remains of the deceased were also sent to the hospital for a post mortem.

In an unrelated case, a 34-year-old motorcyclist from Serian perished in a road accident on Sunday.

It was said the victim was about to change lane near Tasik Danu in Serian before he lost control of his machine, which skidded on the road.

It was claimed that the driver of a lorry coming from the same direction could not brake in time and rammed into him.

His body was sent to Serian Hospital for a post mortem.
