PONTIAN: Village heads have been told to play their role in advising those who are eligible for the 1Malaysia People’s Assistance (BR1M 3.0) this year to register themselves.

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan said to date, only 270,000 of the 900,000 eligible new applicants have registered while the remaining 70 per cent had not done so.

“There are 13,127 village heads in 22,000 villages nationwide who could assist in this exercise.

“As such, I am pleading to village heads to trace and advise those with monthly household income of RM3,001 to RM4,000 to register quickly,” he told reporters after opening the Pontian village heads annual general meeting here yesterday.

Ahmad, who is also Pontian member of parliament, said village heads were also told to advise the aid recipients to update their bank accounts to facilitate payment.

He said there were 6.8 million existing BR1M recipients with 4.4 million with updated banking accounts.

“The distribution of BR1M will be made to eligible recipients from February via bank transfer direct into the bank accounts of recipients,” he said. — Bernama
