Agong receives instruments of appointments from foreign ambassadors, high commissioner

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah yesterday received instruments of appointments from three foreign ambassadors and a high commissioner at the Istana Negara here.

The three ambassadors were Essa Mohammed Al-Mannai of Qatar, Ugur Dogan from Turkey and Dr Niranjan Man Singh Basnyat from Nepal, while the high commissioner was TS Tirumurti from India.

Essa Mohammed, 39, was the Qatari Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission in Washington DC in the United States before being appointed as Qatari foreign minister’s assistant in 2012.

Meanwhile, Dogan, 59, who has over 20 years of experience in the diplomatic field, was the Turkish Ambassador to The Hague, Netherlands before coming to Malaysia.

Dr Niranjan Man, 58, who was appointed as ambassador for the first time, has a doctoral degree in international and diplomatic relations and he was the Chief of Protocol at the Nepal Ministry of Foreign Affairs before being appointed as Nepalese Ambassador to Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed High Commissioner of India to Malaysia, Tirumurti, 51, was the former Second Secretary at the Indian Embassy in Egypt and had also served as the Indian envoy in Washington DC and Jakarta, Indonesia.

Earlier, Tuanku Abdul Halim also presented letters of appointments to eight Malaysian envoys.

They were Datuk Ahmad Rasidi Hazizi, who received his letter of appointment as the new Malaysian Ambassador to United Kingdom, Amran Mohamed Zin (Turkey), Datuk Mohd Zulkephli Mohd Noor (Switzerland), Kennedy Jawan (Spain), Datuk Hidayat Abdul Hamid (Kazakhstan), Nadzirah Osman (Czech Republic), Sharrina Abdullah (Senegal) and Lim Juay Jin (Nigeria).

According to the Foreign Ministry’s statement, prior to their appointment, Ahmad Rasidi was the Malaysian Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Amran was the ministry’s Southeast Asia Division Secretary I, Mohd Zulkephli was Malaysian Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Kennedy was Malaysian High Commissioner to South Africa.

Hidayat, on the other hand, was the deputy director-general of the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter Terrorism (SEARCCT)), while Lim was the training director at the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations.

Meanwhile, Nazirah was the ministry’s Human Resource Division secretary and Sharrina had served as the ministry’s South and Central Asia Division secretary. — Bernama
