Firefighters struggle to put out the blaze engulfing the house.
BINTULU: A two-storey house at Kpg Jabai, Jalan Tg Batu was gutted by fire around 7.35pm Wednesday.
Fortunately a woman and her 14-year-old daughter managed to escape unscathed, said Thomas Umpang Julong, an enforcement officer at the local Fire and Rescue Department yesterday.
Five other members of the family were away during the incident.
Thomas said they received an emergency call at 7.35pm and immediately dispatched one fire engine with 12 firefighters to the scene. Civil Defence personnel also rushed to the scene minutes later.
“We managed to control the fire at 7.54pm but by that time the house was almost destroyed,” he said.
The cause of the fire and the loss ascertained are still being investigated.
