LIMBANG: Government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), tourism players and the local community here are told to do their part in their respective areas, as part of the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 (VMY 2014) promotion.

Bukit Kota state assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said Limbang has its own potential that hails from its natural/agricultural products.

“However, without much promotional strategy, the products and places of interest here will not be make known to people outside of Limbang,” he said.

As such, he added that various programmes in conjunction with VMY 2014 such as a food carnival, education fair, Sukan Rakyat Carnival and New Year’s celebration which are scheduled in March, June, September and December respectively are targeted as crowd-pullers.

In addition to this, Dr Abdul Rahman advised associations and organisations to voluntarily organise more of such events, making the year merrier.

Meanwhile, he also urged the District Council here to improve the infrastructure and facilities here, for tourists’ convenience.

“For example, (facilities could be improved at) Kampung Patiambun, a potential tourist destination that surely will be an attraction with its monkeys. The local government must identify the necessary improvement so that money can be used at the right place,” he noted.

Limbang, he said, which is strategically located between Brunei Darussalam and Sabah, had been known for its low population. However this should not be the reason not to develop it to become one of the top destinations in the country, he pointed out.
