LAWAS: The 275 flood victims from 70 families who were forced to evacuate from their homes in Kampung Petarikan Merapok here received food aid from Lawas Welfare Department recently.
Its officer Mohd Nur Khairul Punggut said the aid included dry food, rice, sugar and drinking water.
“To speed up the contribution work, we have to bring in manpower from Limbang district, while the aid given to the victims is adequate,” he told reporters.
Apart from the village, he added, other places affected by the flood which occurred since last Wednesday were Kampung Siang-siang, Kampung Jalan Pulau Salam, Kampung Masjid Baru and Kampung Petarikan.
“Hence, the Indoor Stadium here which has been closed since Thursday, has been used as a temporary relief centre to cater for 34 victims from nine families while Dewan SMK Merapok is used to cater for 53 more victims from 15 families,” he said.
Also seen at the centre was head of PBB Bukit Sari youth section, councillor Simie Nasip.
