KUCHING: The annual Kenyalang Park Chinese New Year Bazaar is open, giving the Chinese community another place to do their shopping for the coming festivity.

Former Stampin MP Datuk Yong Khoon Seng was on hand to officiate at its opening on Sunday evening.

The launching ceremony was a lively affair, complete with a lion dance and sweets thrown for children to grab.

Later, Yong, SUPP secretary-general Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, SUPP Youth chairman Tan Kai and other Chinese community leaders visited the stalls as well as distributed mandarin oranges to the stall owners.

The bazaar boasts 270 booths offering goodies ranging from cookies, mandarin oranges and tidbits to glutinous rice cakes, roast meat and dried ingredients.

There are also a few Malay stalls offering cookies and the traditional `kueh sepit’.

The bazaar is open from 6pm to 10pm daily until the eve of Chinese New Year.
