SIBU: Dudong assemblyman Yap Hoi Leong yesterday challenged Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh to name the new Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman and deputy chairman within three days.

In a press statement, Yap said the announcement should also include the list of councillors for the new term.

He said if the minister of local government and community development’s son Dato Andrew Wong Kee Yew is appointed the deputy chairman, Soon Koh should state the merit of the appointment.

“Andrew has never been in SMC, and thus has no experience of council work. How could he rise to the top in such a fast pace?” asked Yap in a press statement.

He said he had moved around his constituency yesterday morning with his party members, and many had speculated that Kee Yew would be SMC’s new deputy chairman.

On another matter, Yap claimed many members of the public were not happy with the current scavenging, street-lighting and road and drain maintenance services.

He also claimed SMC had been slow in reacting to public complaints on such services.
