MIRI: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau on Thursday slammed the opposition for only knowing how to condemn the government but is nowhere to be seen during disasters.

He said the opposition was only good in playing up small issues against the government but was not on the ground to assist disaster victims like flood victims.

“This is what has been happening during times of difficulties. They are not here and I hope the ‘rakyat’ will see who are the people who really work for them,” Dennis told The Borneo Post in commenting on the flood situation in Baram.

The people, he added, who were seen moving around assisting the flood victims or during disasters are the government servants from relevant departments and BN elected representatives.

Adding on, he said, the opposition was only quick to take advantage of opportunities like the price hike to condemn the government through the press.

“They (opposition) only know how to sweet talk but don’t assist during difficult times,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Dennis urged the people in his constituency to be more careful and proactive during the rainy season.

He said, in the event of any disaster, the people must immediately report to the ‘ketua kampung’, District Office or himself so that they can respond promptly.

He said, the flooding in Baram last Monday was under control but added that he had received a report yesterday from Upper Baram of heavy non-stop rain in Tutoh Apoh and Tinjar.
