SIBU: An elderly man missing from home since Dec 31 last year was picked up safe and sound from a police station here by his son yesterday afternoon.

The 73-year-old from Sungai Empawah was living with his son in town. He said he left the house because he was scared by the neighbours lighting firecrackers.

On Jan 23, a lorry driver spotted the old man, who had almost fainted at Merdeka Road, and sent him to the police station.

Police found a photocopy of his identity card and medical card on the elderly citizen, identified as Hii.

There was a handphone number on his medical card, but when police called the number, nobody responded.

Three days later on Jan 26, patrolling cops found him without a shirt at Pedada Road at 10.30am.

They brought him back to the police station and gave him a t-shirt, food and drinks.

Hii could not remember where he was from and gave the police station as his home.

Finally his grandson was contacted and he told police his dad lives at Tiong Hua Road.

Dudong assemblyman Yap Hoi Liong went to the police station to assist Hii.

Hii’s son picked him up from the police station around noon yesterday.

He said his father had gone missing three times.
