Indonesian charged with killing fellowman

KUCHING: An Indonesian national was yesterday charged with killing his fellow countryman on Jan 19.

No plea was recorded from Bertrus, 31, who hails from Bengkayang, West Kalimantan when he appeared before Magistrate Zulhairil Sulaiman. Plea would only be taken when the case is transferred to the High Court

Bertrus allegedly killed Damok Lumpen, 27, at an unnumbered house in Kampung Semeba near here between 10.30am and 11am on Jan 19.

The non-bailable charge is listed under Section 302 of the Penal Code and therefore he was ordered to be further remanded pending disposal of the case.

The court set March 4 for further mention of the case.

According to the facts of case, Damok died of injuries on his head, arms and torso after he was attacked inside a house at a chicken and fish farm.

His body was found by a housemate.

Bertrus allegedly fled from the scene on a motorcycle but was arrested by police the next day at a house in Laruh Scheme, Gita.

Inspector Yunus Sahak prosecuted while Bertrus was not represented by any counsel.
