KUCHING: Parents have been reminded to carefully nurture their children’s development, particularly those at the crucial age of four and below.

Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah made the call during the ‘Sentuhan Kasih Tahun Baru Cina’ event held by Petronas yesterday.

“A child’s stimulation is very important at the age four and below, so for this reason we as parents need to nurture our children properly by giving them mental stimulation, warmth, support, care and support while not neglecting spiritual guidance,” she said.

Some 60 children from the Dyslexia Association Sarawak, Harmoni Jaya Community-based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK), Serian PDK, Samarahan PDK, and Sadong Jaya PDK attended the event, which included a tour of the PetroSains Dino Trek II exhibition.

Fatimah explained that stimulation is key to brain development for children at that age.

She urged parents to bring their children to the exhibition.

“To me this is a very good exhibition, which can stimulate the mind of our young children … So I hope that Petronas can bring the exhibition to other areas for the benefit of our children,” she said.

Fatimah also commended Petronas for bringing cheer and joy to those in need during festive seasons, adding that Petronas has been consistent with its corporate social responsibility (CSR) with programmes such as mykasih, which helps the young to become self-reliant.
