School-based assessment being reviewed

PUTRAJAYA: The school-based assessment (PBS) application system will be reviewed following complaints from teachers, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said teachers were complaining of difficulty in keying in data into the computer system database.

“For the time being, the implementation of the PBS application system is postponed until April, but teachers still have to record details and particulars related to PBS manually,” he told reporters after a meeting teachers of Sekolah Menengah Presint 8 (1) here yesterday.

Problems related to the PBS application system were among matters raised by teachers during the one-hour meeting with Muhyiddin, who is also education minister.

Muhyiddin said a case study on the SBA and its application method would be conducted at Sekolah Menengah Presint 8(1) Putrajaya.

Following the study, the ministry will hold a meeting to decide whether the SBA and its application method will be continued, he added.

The system, which is a transformation from focusing on examination to a more holistic system of education assessment, is alleged to be a burden to teachers as the system frequently ‘hangs’ which results in the data on the students being filled late at night. — Bernama
