KUCHING: Some 151 students from four schools in Jalan Puncak Borneo near here have received the 1Malaysia special school aid.

Of the number, 31 are from SK Taba Sait at Bengoh Resettlement Scheme (BRS), and 40 each from SK St Patrick Semadang, SK Puruh Karu and SK Bengoh.

The aid, which comprises a school bag, a water container and half dozen pencils, were given out by Natural Resources and Environment Deputy Minister Dato Sri Dr James Dawos Mamit at Bengoh Resettlement Scheme (BRS), Semadang-Skio Road, about 42 km from here.

Dawos, who is Mambong MP, said the aid was in addition to the special school aid of RM100 distributed early this year.

“Both assistances hopefully will help ease the financial burden of parents,” he said yesterday.

He said parents should also appreciate the various assistance channelled by the government towards their children’s educational needs.

Dawos said the government had been providing various aids for students, adding: “It shows that the government care for the people.”

Aside from the special school aid, the government had also provided Food Supplement Programme for primary school pupils, financial assistance under the Kumpulan Wang Amanah Pelajar Miskin (KWAPM), for students under the E-Kasih scheme and 1Malaysia Milk Programme.

Other assistance to be implemented are Safety Jacket Aid, 1Malaysia Book Voucher of RM250 for each tertiary students and ‘Bantuan Makanan Asrama’ for boarding students.
