SIBU: Magnum yesterday donated RM2,060 to a Tuberculosis (TB) and asthmatic patient under its `Magnum Cares’ community support programme.

Of the amount, RM1,000 was from Magnum Foundation and RM1,060 from Magnum donation boxes.

Magnum Sibu sub-centre technical assistant Philip Tiong and Sibu Municipal Council deputy chairman Dato Andrew Wong presented a mock cheque for the amount to the patient, Tang Hung Ing at the council office.

Tang, who is currently staying with her son and relatives in Bintulu, is hunchbacked and has difficulty walking.

She used to earn a living by collecting plastic bottles and aluminum cans.

Her daughter, Ling Hee Chai, said her mother stopped doing all these in August last year after a fall which incapacitated her.

“She can walk now but is not very stable,” she said.

Tang had sought welfare assistance from the council, and the latter initiated a fundraising exercise involving Magnum’s sales outlets in Sibu and Kuching.
