Astana staff geared up for oath-taking ceremony tomorrow

KUCHING: Rehearsal for the oath-taking ceremony for the new chief minister was held at the Astana yesterday.

The rehearsal involving Astana staff, which started at 9am, was led by senior private secretary to the Head of State, Datuk Khir Busrah.

Special Functions Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem, 68, is scheduled to take the oath as the Chief Minister tomorrow (Friday) before the Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin at the Astana.

The oath-taking ceremony will be Salahuddin’s last official function as Head of State before Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud takes over.

Salahuddin was appointed Head of State on April 22, 1977 and reappointed on Dec 5, 2000.

His term will expire on Feb 28.

It is also scheduled that Taib will be meeting Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Shah Mu’adzam for an appointment to become the 7th Head of State.

The new Head of State is expected to take the oath at the State Legislative Complex in Petra Jaya on Saturday.
