KUALA LUMPUR: “The day before the incident, my sons went out with their mother, maid and other family members. There was no misunderstanding between them,” said the father of the two boys who were believed to have been killed by their Indonesian maid on Tuesday.

The maid then killed herself in the incident which occurred at their home in Taman Sri Putra, Sungai Buloh near here.

The father, Selvan Joseph, 44, said he was still shocked and puzzled over the incident as the maid, who was in her 30s, was very close to the boys, aged 18 months and five years, and liked by everyone.

“I married my wife three years ago but we have been living apart since last year.

“My children (the boys are half brothers) were looked after by my wife and her family while I live in my mother’s house,” he told reporters when met at the waiting lounge of the Forensic Department, Sungai Buloh Hospital here.

Selvan, who works in the information technology sector, said the maid spoke Mandarin well and had lived with his wife’s family since a year-and-a-half ago.

Meanwhile, a neighbour of the victim, S Sivakumar, 34, said the victims’ mother had previously said they had a good maid.

“She lived with her family which ran a restaurant business. And she has also told me that she had a good maid who really loved her children.

“But something like this happens..I did not expect it and I am shocked,” he said.

He added that during the time he was neighbours with the children’s mother since two years ago, he had seen the maid cleaning the house and watering the plants every morning, but they had never spoken.

“They were a good family which was very busy with the business and there was not much time to talk to her or her family,” he said.

A former neighbour who did not want to be identified said the husband and wife were friendly with the neighbours.

“I knew them before they moved to the new house about five years ago,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dino Nurwahyudin, a counsellora at the  Indonesian Embassy here, said the matter was being fully investigated by the police.

“There has to be an investigation to find out why this happened to prevent it happening again in the future.

“It was something unexpected,” he said when met by reporters at the Sungai Buloh Hospital forensic department.
