Avoid confusion on eligibility, quantum of BR1M

MIRI: There is a lot of confusion among recipients on the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) or 1Malaysia People’s Aid, particularly on eligibility and quantum of financial assistance.

Communications Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin during a visit to Miri office of the National Inland Revenue Board yesterday said he received a number of complaints and grievances from the public on many issues related to the aid.

Earlier Lee was briefed on the distribution in the division by the board’s Miri branch director Toh Yong Lai.

Clearing the confusion among the people, he urged them to refer to the latest information on the board’s official website or news from the print or electronic media.

“I believe the information they got might just be rumours or heresay spread by someone not well versed with the programme,” said Lee.

The Senadin assemblyman also believed they got the information from websites not linked to the board’s official or government websites.

“The information from other websites, especially from non-governmental organisation or individual blog, is not accurate. Official announcements are made by the board only,” he said.

He advised recipients to update their data and bank accounts to facilitate distribution of the aid.

Lee said recipients should be thankful that BR1M came with i-BR1M, a Takaful plan for the protection of recipients from Jan 1, 2014 to Dec 31, 2014.
