SIBU: An 18-year-old girl jumped into the Rajang River yesterday claiming she was told to do so by her late grandmother in a dream the night before.

Two men who saw her jump at 9.30am near Matu/Daro express boat jetty at Khoo Peng Loong Road managed to save her.

Civil Defence Department (JPAM) personnel rushed to the scene after they received a distress call from the public.

She was later taken to Sibu Hospital.

It is learned that the girl had just moved here with her family from Kapit.

She claimed that in her dream, her late grandmother told her to jump into the river because she (grandmother) wanted to meet her.

The girl’s grandmother died a few years ago.

The incident stalled traffic along Khoo Peng Loong Road for a while.
