100 students benefit from planter’s CSR programme

MIRI: Sarawak Oil Palms Bhd held its 4th Corporate Social Responsibility’s (CSR) for Young Achievers Award (YAA) and Students Adoption Programme (SAP) yesterday which benefitted 100 students from 10 different primary and secondary schools here.

The presentation ceremony was held at the SOP Lambir Academy Training Centre.

SOPB’s chief operating officer Eric Kiu Kwong Seng, accompanied by Group Plantation Controller Chua Kian Hong, presented the awards to the students. The function was also attended by 100 teachers, parents and SOP staff.

The recpients were from SK Kelapa Sawit No.1, SK Kelapa Sawit No.4, SJK (C) Chin Nam, SJK (C) Chee Mung, SK Kita, SL Kampung Tegageng, SMK Luar Bandar, SMK Subis, SMK Suai and SMK Bakong.

Chua in his speech said SOPB does not only focus on their oil palm business but also wants to “grow together with community” by helping them with various CSR programmes such as education (YAA and SAP) and health care such as the recent successful Eye Vision project that was done in Tinbarap and Sebauh.

Most importantly, he encouraged the students to have a dream to achieve for a better future.

The YAA and SAP are a part of the company’s CSR programme in which they help students on their education and also the local communities.

YAA is a rewarding programme for students who have excelled in their public examinations while SAP provides financial support to needy students.
