KUCHING: Safety at construction sites is still a major concern among contractors.

This view was expressed by Kuching Samarahan Division Building and Civil Engineering Contractors Association (KSBCECA) chairman Andy Lai at the association’s annual general meeting at its premises at Jalan Ang Cheng Ho here yesterday.

“We are working with Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) to increase the level of safety awareness in the construction industry with the Site Safety Supervisor (SSS) course.

“Therefore, we urge construction industry players and developers to send their supervisors to attend the SSS course promoted by our association,” he told reporters at a press conference after their meeting.

He stated that the next SSS course will be during weekends from April 12 to May 4, with seats limited to 30 participants, and application forms can be downloaded from the MBAM website (www.mbam.org.my) or by sending email to [email protected].

Meanwhile, according to a press release given to reporters at the press conference, KSBCECA members expressed gratitude to the government for calling open tenders for two major road projects in Kapit Division under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.

At the same time, KSBCECA urged the government to call open tenders for all projects and that projects should be awarded to the lowest qualified tenderer in a transparent manner to save cost.
