The state’s STPM results also saw an increase in percentage from the 17 subjects taken including Mathematics, Communicative Malay Literature, Usuluddin and Syariah compared with results from 2012.

The STPM 2013 is the first examination under a new format set by the Malaysian Examinations Council (MPM) in accordance with the Education Transformation Programme.

The STPM candidates were the first batch of candidates for the new STPM assessment system in which the subjects offered remain at 23.

The curriculum is divided into three parts with each part taught and studied in either the first, second or third term with a total duration of study within one-and-a-half years.

The new assessment system also introduced a school-based assessment (SBA) consisting of project work, field study and practical work.

Assessment is carried out in two forms namely the SBA with a weighting of 20 per cent to 40 per cent, and the centralised examination with a weighting of 60 per cent to 80 per cent.
