KUCHING: Tags Closet is introducing Tipilly to the Asian market via Kuching with a fashion show at Plaza Merdeka today to kickstart the launch of the US brand.

Tipilly, a New York-based fashion brand founded and run by Singaporean designer Alicia Koo, provides women with uniquely designed clothing, with a distinct chic, fun and feminine style.

On why they decided the bring the brand to Kuching, Tags Closet co-owner Annie Lau explained that they found the brand to be quite well-known along with the fact that the brand has yet to enter the Asian market.

Lau added that they were quite impressed with Alicia Koo’s style and believes that there is a market here for Tipilly as the designs are different from other brands. She further added that their target market for Tipilly are for women aged between 20 to 40 years.

Tipilly’s line of clothing, as described by Lau, are of the flowy summery, sophisticated, elegant and girly type which can be worn in any season. She further added that celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan and Audrina Patridge are huge fans of Tipilly, while singer-songwriter Charity Vance in the US has endorsed Tipilly in her new music video ‘Picture Perfect’.

The Tipilly fashion show will be happening at Plaza Merdeka from 7 pm to 9 pm, with professional models doing the runway and a deejay performing for the event.

Tags Closet is collaborating with Bollywood Professional to give out free make overs to all its customers who purchase from them with an instant photo shoot as well. The makeover for the models will also be done by Bollywood Professional.

In Esse Wedding Planner, who is the event planner is also helping to organise Tags Closet’s pop-up store at the ground floor of Plaza Merdeka, which will be open until Sunday, March 23.

There will be local celebrities performing during the show.

One of the main celebrities includes Keith Valentine who is the first and youngest harmonica player in Malaysia to achieve triple champion on an international level. A free Keith Valentine CD will be given away for every purchase at the pop up store.

Tags Closet, co-owned by Lau and Justin Jong has been operating for three years, with the new store expected to open in early May this year at S3 Curve. They plan to open up another outlet in Kuching, before expanding to Kuala Lumpur and Sabah.

Aside from the local market, they aim to also expand to Bangkok, Thailand in the near future, as they believe that there is a market for the brands they provide, given the high rate of tourism in the country.

The owners emphasised that Tags Closet’s major brands are from the US and Korea, with each product carefully selected to ensure that their customers have the best shopping experience at the store.

“All the brands that we cater are international brands and are original. Our products include casual wear, party dresses, tops, shorts, skirts, fashion accessories, t-shirts, tank tops, and street wear,” they added.
