KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is showcasing its wide varieties of seafood and exotic local delicacies during the Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

This year, the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) will collaborate with the Kota Kinabalu Food Festival (KKFF’14) and Sabah Cultural Board to organize the biggest food festival in Sabah, formally known as Citrarasa Sabah.

Visitors can expect three days of unforgettable dining experience, cultural performances, cooking competitions and more during the grand opening at KK Time Square from April 18 to 20.

Citrarasa Sabah will continue to run for one month with various participating hotels in Sabah hosting lunches and dinners serving signature Sabahan dishes.

Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministr Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, who will be officiating the event, said this is the second mega event for Sabah in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

“Through this event, it will be a great opportunity for tourists to sample local Sabahan delicacies as well as experience local culture,” he said.

The Citrarasa Sabah Food Festival 2014 will be celebrated in a fanfare atmosphere while hosting a three-day bazaar, where participating outlets would showcase their signature food menus for visitors to explore, taste and indulge.

In addition, visitors will have the option of purchasing discount vouchers that can be used at participating restaurants throughout the month of Citrarasa Sabah.

While visitors and tourists indulge in gastronomic foods such as gourmet food, street food, vegetarian delights, local fruits including durian, halal food and exotic delicacies; they can also expect to be mesmerized by Sabahan cultural performances. It would be the dream event for every foodie’s fulfillment.

“The purpose of this event is to promote Sabah’s rich culinary traditions founded on its strong historic cultural heritage which includes agriculture,” said Donald Gomez, director of MOTAC Sabah.

In line with this objective, MOTAC has appointed Chef Johan Sinam as the celebrity chef for this culinary extravaganza.

Citrarasa Sabah will not only be filled with food, but also with exciting activities and entertainment. There would be lucky draws, special chef cooking demonstrations, exotic food tasting, starlight cinema and not forgetting interactive dance and a live band awaiting the visitors.

There will also be coloring competitions for the children.
